Access to land by indigenous and peasant communities is a fundamental right to ensure food sovereignty, the preservation of ecosystems and the cultures of the territories. This experience describes the work process generated to resolve land conflicts in the Argentine Gran Chaco with a regional perspective.
Since 1981, the Foundation for Development in Justice and Peace has developed – mainly in the provinces of Salta, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fé, Jujuy and Formosa – activities to strengthen organizations and provide legal advice so that they can initiate lawsuits or negotiations with legal owners. From this practice arose a methodology called Dialogues and Agreements for Access to Land.
The video shows two cases considered “successful”: access to land by the Wichí indigenous community in the Los Blancos region, Salta province, Argentina (1981-1997); and the division and titling of lands of lots 55 and 14 between the Lhaka Honhat Aboriginal Communities and the rural population, Salta province, Argentina (Years 1998-2014).
